WHAT ARCHITECTURE TAUGHT ME ABOUT DESIGN

Before focusing on branding and web design, I started my creative journey studying architecture. What drew me to it wasn’t just buildings themselves, but the design process behind them - how ideas flow from rough sketches to polished plans, and how decisions shape the way people move through a space. The more I’ve worked in branding, the more I’ve realised those same principles apply to all forms of creativity.

PROCESS CREATES CLARITY

In architecture, a project moves step by step - from early sketches to refined drawings to finished materials. Each stage builds on the last, sharpening the idea and bringing it closer to reality. I approach design in the same way. A strong process brings intention, keeps things moving forward, and makes sure the final result feels natural rather than rushed.

SPACE IS AS IMPORTANT AS FORM

Architecture teaches you that space isn’t just what’s built, but also what’s left open. Negative space in a design works the same way - it lets the important parts breathe and helps people focus on what matters most. Without space, everything feels crowded. With it, the essentials shine.

DESIGN SHAPES RITUALS

Buildings don’t just guide movement - they guide rituals. Think about the simple routine of coming home: stepping through the front door, dropping your keys, walking to the kitchen, opening the fridge, moving to the chopping board. Architecture considers every step of that journey. I bring the same thinking to websites and branding - how someone moves through a homepage, what they see first, where their eyes go next, and what action they’re led to take. Design should support those rituals seamlessly.

Architecture gave me a respect for process, space, and the rituals of movement - lessons that translate directly into design. For me, creativity is always about flow: guiding someone from their first impression to their lasting experience, with intention at every step.
