5 Website Mistakes That Are Costing You Customers
Your website should feel like your online home - welcoming, easy to find your way around, and a place people actually want to stay. But for lots of small businesses, it ends up being the opposite.
A few common mistakes can quietly push people away before they even get to know you. The good news? They’re easy to fix once you spot them.
1
TOO MUCH HAPPENING AT ONCE
When a page is packed with text, images, and buttons, it’s hard to know where to look. Visitors end up overwhelmed and click away. (It can also affect loading times, which we’ll get into in a bit).
HOW TO FIX IT: Keep each page as simple as possible, and make sure each section is focused on one clear message. Don’t be afraid of empty space - it helps people breathe.
2
MESSY NAVIGATION
If someone can’t find what they need in a couple of clicks, chances are they’ll give up. Long or confusing menus are a fast track to losing interest.
HOW TO FIX IT: Stick to the essentials - and label them clearly. It always helps to consider the framework that your trying to build - and keep the users journey in mind - instead of just adding more and more pages and dropdown menus.
3
NOT MOBILE FRIENDLY
Most people browse on their phones now. If your site looks messy, tiny, or hard to use on mobile, you’ll lose them before they even think about reaching out.
HOW TO FIX IT: Check your site on your own phone - if you’re pinching and zooming, it’s time for an update.
4
SLOW LOADING
This is a lot more important than you might think. Nobody has the patience to wait for a slow site, and it can make your business feel less trustworthy.
HOW TO FIX IT: Tidy things up and keep it simple - smaller image files and a leaner design make a huge difference.
5
NO CLEAR CALL TO ACTION
Even if people love what they see, they still need you to guide them. A vague “click here” doesn’t inspire action.
HOW TO FIX IT: be clear and confident - “Book a free call” or “Get your FREE guide” tells them exactly what to do before they lose interest and click off.
Speaking of calls to action… I think it’s time we had a talk.
